Justin Appel is the Program Director of the US Army Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) Program within the Hypersonic Strike Weapon Systems Mission Area for Lockheed Martin Space. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading the development and deployment of a transportable conventional deep-strike land-based hypersonic weapon system by FY2023 for the US Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office ($440M overall; $125M/year). Under this effort he successfully led the design, manufacturing, and delivery of the first Army Hypersonic Battery in 24 months. He is located in Huntsville, Alabama.
Throughout his career, Dr. Appel has been relied upon to drive challenging, ambiguous, and complex projects to completion. He has sought out and accepted progressively larger technical, leadership and program management positions receiving multiple awards.
Dr. Appel holds a B.S. in mathematics from Montana State University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a graduate of the Lead and Innovate For Tomorrow Program (2020); the Lockheed Martin Program Management Development Program (2007); and the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technical Leadership Program (2002).
