Jeremiah Gertler is a senior associate with the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Aerospace Security Project. Gertler is also senior analyst for the Teal Group market intelligence firm, where he edits Teal’s annual World Civil UAS Market Profile and Forecast and World Military & Civil Aircraft Briefing. He is director of the Defense Concepts Organization, an analytical consultancy, and cohost of the Air Power podcast from Defense & Aerospace Report.
He was the military aviation analyst for the Congressional Research Service for 12 years, where he testified before congressional committees; briefed members and staff on all related policy, budget, technical, and other matters; and wrote and maintained reports on major military aviation programs. In previous Capitol Hill billets, Gertler oversaw the defense procurement and missile defense budgets on the professional staff of the House Committee on Armed Services for FY 2000 to FY 2005 and earlier served as military legislative assistant to a Senate Armed Services Committee member.
As senior fellow at CSIS, he was principal author or coauthor of major reports on Department of Defense reform and missile defense, reserve component roles and missions, systems acquisition, military logistics, and Special Forces aviation. Subsequently, Gertler established a defense policy and analysis center for the Aerospace Industries Association. Gertler was extensively involved in the 1997 Quadrennial Defense Review while in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was senior analyst for the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission during 1995 and began his career in 1984 with the RAND Corporation.
